An exhibition on the 140th anniversary of the birth of P.P. Bazhov

The scientific library of VKGU invites its readers to visit the exhibition on the 140th anniversary of the birth of the famous writer-storyteller P.P. Bazhov.

January 27 is the 140th anniversary of Pavel Petrovich Bazhov, in our city of Ust-Kamenogorsk, his name is the longest street.

The tales of Pavel Petrovich Bazhov enter us from childhood, and even if we don’t often turn to them as adults, it’s all the same that the Mistress of the Copper Mountain and Danila-master live somewhere nearby, in parallel. And it already seems that we also know everything about the author ...

“Well, not all, of course,” we admit to ourselves, and again object: “But, in fact, much, and that he lived in Ust-Kamenogorsk and his portrait with a beard, we remember ...”.

And suddenly we open Bazhov anew, for ourselves, and maybe for others.

In the civil war he fought on the side of the Reds, from July 1919 he arrived in Ust-Kamenogorsk to restore the Bolshevik cell that was defeated during the failed uprising of the prisoners of Ust-Kamenogorsk prison. Under the guise of an insurance agent, carried out the connection between the partisan units of the "Red Mountain Eagles". After the liberation of Ust-Kamenogorsk from the White Guards, Bazhov was at the forefront.

From January 1, 1920, the newspaper “Izvestia of Ust-Kamenogorsk Uyezd Revolutionary Committee” began to appear in the city, and in the summer of that year, it was replaced by the newspaper “Soviet Power”, which was the organ of the Ust-Kamenogorsk district executive committee of the Council of Workers, Peasants, Cossacks, Kyrgyz and soldiers' deputies and the district committee of the RCP (b).

As an appendix to this newspaper, there are “Pages of a worker”, “Down with illiteracy” or “Primer for adults”.

The initiator and constant participant in the preparation of the "Primer", as well as other applications of the newspaper was an outstanding writer Pavel Petrovich Bazhov, then known by the name PP Bacheev. It was Bazhov who set up the publication of the newspapers Izvestia of Ust-Kamenogorsk Revolutionary Committee and the Soviet Power.

In 1936, the first of the Ural tales "The Girl of Azovka" was published in the journal, and in 1939 the first edition of the Ural tales - "Malachite Box" was published. This book during the life of the author has repeatedly replenished with new tales. The publishing house has received an exclusive order for several volumes with special design for shipment to the international exhibition in New York.

You can get acquainted with books by Pavel Bazhov in the scientific reading room for teachers and undergraduates (229 office).
