A graduate of EKSU, a doctoral student of the KazNU shared her impressions of overseas internship

After a research internship at the University of Zurich (Switzerland) last year, a graduate of the EKSU, and now a doctoral candidate of the 2nd year of the specialty "Cultural Studies" of the Department of Religious Studies and Cultural Studies at the Kazakh National University. Al-Farabi Dinara Saparova, noted the important points in the system of training students and doctoral students abroad.

Narrowly focused topic of thesis choice

An interesting approach to the choice of the topic of the thesis. If Kazakhstan is inclined to choose the widely covered interdisciplinary areas for study, here, on the contrary, the narrower and more specific the topic of the thesis is, the more easily and accessible is the study methodology.

Burning eyes

Doctoral students are really interested in doing research and specifically their topic. Once a month, scientific seminars or PhD-meetings are held at the faculty, where beginners and mature doctoral students come together and report on the work done. At the same time, the meeting takes place in an informal atmosphere with a benevolent atmosphere and the more mature, soon to go to the defense doctoral students, help with advice and recommendations, younger and inexperienced colleagues. Especially fascinating, Zurich doctoral students report on field research, whether it is the cultural characteristics of the Nepalese population, wedding ceremonies in the village, or trade in the border states.

Search for truth

The group usually trains students / undergraduates of various profiles who have chosen this particular subject and are engaged in the discussion of the scientific texts of the authors proposed by the teacher in the syllabus. The work goes in a fast rhythm, one student / undergraduate sets the pace, the rest pick up, agree or disagree with the point of view of the author or a fellow student. The teacher only asks the "right" questions, to which students once again begin to engage in heated debate. The teacher, in fact, plays the role of coordinator, assistant, companion, who helps, through many contradictory thoughts, to find his right one and prove it.

Interestingly, for supporters of language experiments: the German-speaking group presents scientific materials strictly in English and develops a good language environment: the two languages harmoniously coexist with each other. In the audience, the discussion of the text in English, outside the educational process - the German language.
